Sacred Choices: Reproductive Justice
Who is Pro-Abortion? Virtually no one! Who is Pro-Choice? UUs are! How do we support choice and reduce abortions? By attending the 2009 PRO- CHOICE LOBBY DAY at the MN State Capitol on Wednesday, March 25.
2009 Legislative issues to watch are:
Family Planning Funding: 42 clinics serving 27,000 MN women each year face Gov. Pawlenty's proposed 20% cuts to Family Planning and Special Projects.
Comprehensive Sexuality Education: Research shows that effective sex education programs provide adolescents with the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values to make responsible choices. Those who attend the showing of the film "The Education of Shelby Knox" will be inspired to lobby for Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
Medical Records Retention Bill; This bill would require abortion facilities to complete additional reporting to the state regarding details of patient care and to retain medical records for patients for a full five years beyond what is currently required by law for all medical facilities-- unnecessary and burdensome regulations on abortion providers but not other medical professionals.
Lobby day is informative, empowering and FUN!!!! More information and registration is at www.ProChoiceLobbyDay.org. To carpool from First Universalist contact Cathy Apostle, 952-941-0642, caquilt51@aol.com.

Reframing the Abortion Debate
–A Note from the Executive Director of RCRC Kiely Todd Roska:
On describing the protest at Planned Parenthood on Good Friday 2007.
“To witnesses driving by, the protest was clearly divided into a secular pro-choice side and a religious anti-abortion side… Unfortunately, the story that was reported was of secular pro-choicers vs. religious pro-lifers. As I watched the news coverage that evening, I kept wishing that they had interviewed some of the religious pro-choice people who were there that day, so that we could have shared our stories of commitment to women as moral decision-makers and our commitment to religious freedom...”
“We should be having conversations in our religious communities. Our silence will not help us protect women’s reproductive rights.
I challenge you to claim your religious pro-choice voice and start the conversation.”
